Murals are a colorful and vibrant feature of Appel Farm. Almost every year students from the Summer Arts Program, under the guidance of visual art instructors, decorate buildings throughout the grounds. These eye-catching works lend a unique personality and allure to the Appel Farm environment.

A well-loved feature of Appel Farm, the Tree of the World mural, has recently been restored. Originally painted in the early 1990s by Summer Arts Program campers, the mural graces the Counselors-In-Training Lounge and depicts a map of the world sprouting from the branches of a large tree. Weather and time had left the painting flaking and cracked, and attempts to fill in peeling areas were not enough to halt the mural's deterioration. Keeping the original design intact, staffers and volunteers restored the mural, removing old paint and giving the image new life. Now the Tree of the World mural, a symbol of diversity and harmony, continues to be enjoyed by thousands of Appel Farm campers and visitors every year.
