You’ve made the effort, now what’s next? Don’t be shy – everyone is encouraged to share their work with the community throughout the session. Perform formally or informally for a supportive audience and gain confidence in your performance skills. Exhibiting a new artwork or being part of a rollicking Friday Night Concert is exhilarating and gives you a rush of new energy to take back to your studies. Exhibitions and performances are viewed as exciting opportunities for artistic and personal growth, as an outlet to experiment and take chances, and to encourage everyone to value performance and exhibition based on effort rather than on one’s level of expertise and experience.
Friday Night Concerts, a long-standing tradition at Appel Farm, feature a dynamic and ever-changing, camper-driven program of exhibitions and performances that are a highlight of each week. Fresh new programs evolve based on what campers have been working on. Shows can include a dance piece choreographed by a dance student, a Shakespearian monologue, a comedy routine, an original poetry reading, a song, an instrumental group or a printmaking slide show. Friday nights often end with a vigorous performance by a rock band!
