Scouts arrived after dinner, participated in a Nature Scavenger Hunt which introduced them to the lay of the land and finished with a clue leading to our bonfire pit. Once there, they sang traditional Girl Scout “repeat-after-me” songs and roasted marshmallows for s’mores. Of course our campfire included an Appel Farm twist! Troops were asked to introduce their troop with an impromptu song or a skit and they got to watch a funny, madcap Bean Skit, performed by our staff. The next morning, after breakfast in our dining hall, they participated in badge workshops, ate lunch, and then ended their overnight stay with an ice cream sundae party and candle recognition ceremony that celebrated their badge-earning achievements.
Last year, we expanded our program to include 4 more badges: Stay overnight Friday and earn your Painting, Potters, Drawing and Jewelry Badges like in previous years; stay overnight Saturday and earn your Staying Fit, Outdoor Art Creator, Outdoor Art Explorer and Dancer Badges.
This year, we have doubled the fun! Scouts can stay two nights and earn all 4 badges being offered for their Scout level PLUS earn a special Appel Farm Artist Badge! Double the fun plus one!
This is how the expanded weekend will work:
After Friday-night-only troops leave, our Double-the-Fun-Plus-One! troops will participate in a late afternoon Kickball game, followed by an Appel Farm Artist Badge workshop and a Pizza Dinner Party. This year’s workshop is “The Iron Designer Challenge” and is a Technical Theatre workshop designed to introduce scouts to the inner working of a theatre’s backstage.
Double-the-Fun-Plus-One! troops will also have access to our Community Clubhouse where they can relax and try optional Craft activities. Later, they can join in a second evening campfire. Sunday morning will feature more badge workshops, a Candle Award Ceremony and ice cream sundae party.
