Mother Daughter Art Retreat

September 18-20, 2020

Update: Mother Daughter Art Retreat Postponed and Rescheduled for September 18-20, 2020.

As the arts education leader in South Jersey, we bring communities together. It’s our mission. In this moment, it also is our responsibility to continue to be a leader and respond to growing concerns over the spread of COVID-19. We are keeping up with this rapidly changing situation, and have been meeting with state and local health resources. As of Thursday, March 12th, recommendations make us believe it is safer for our community to stay home. It is with sincere concern for our community that we are postponing the Mother Daughter Art Retreat.

Once we hear which of our March attendees will join us in September, we may open registrations. Check back to see if spaces are available. Please get in touch at 856-358-2472 with any questions.

Our Mother Daughter Art Retreat is designed for Mothers, Grandmothers, Sisters and Daughters of all ages!

Laugh, listen, and create as you participate in movement, writing and visual arts workshops. Moms – hear about your daughter’s hopes and dreams for the future. Daughters – discover that mom is not only “mom” but a woman just like you, with her own dreams and aspirations. Come join us at Appel Farm Arts and Music Center for a weekend packed with intentional opportunities for connection. Last year, our workshops included: Mixed Media Photos, Poetry, Jewelry Making, Sketch Journaling, and Watercolors, along with a Square Dancing and Saturday evening campfire with traditional songs and s’mores, and more. Check back to see an updated list of workshops for 2020.

Additionally, guests will sleep in our cozy, heated dorm-style bunks, fully equipped with bunk beds and modern bathroom facilities. (All you need is a sleeping bag and pillow.) Delicious meals will be served in our spacious dining hall which overlooks our very own organic garden. Head Chef, Jodi, specializes in delicious and nutritious, fresh cuisine, and will accommodate your vegetarian, dairy-free, or gluten-free diet, and any food allergies.

Cost: $260 for a pair of participants. Includes 2 nights of overnight accommodations, 5 meals, all workshops and materials, s’mores, snacks, and an afternoon wine tasting for moms. Additional Family members are $120 per person.

Mother Daughter Workshops

Imagine learning some American Sign Language, taught by a mother-daughter duo? Sip some wine during a wine and painting pairing. Try your hand at a sketch journaling class.

And that’s just a few of the workshops for this year’s Mother Daughter Art Retreat, with more to come! The ASL Workshop is going to be so special, taught by Hands Up Silent Theatre‘s Kristy Whilden and her daughter! Appel Farm teaching Artist Zoungy will offer a sketch journaling class early on Saturday to encourage you to sketch throughout the weekend, and he’s also teaching a painting lesson!

Our goals for the retreat are based on the 6 Cs of Positive Youth Development.

Our over-arching goal for the Mother Daughter Art Retreat is to create a supportive and safe environment that fosters community and personal growth for participants as they enjoy time for intentional and meaningful connection and communication. (Contribution).
