Collaborating with Schools
A Curricular Partnership is a unique, collaborative relationship between Appel Farm and a school designed for maximum impact and long-term benefits. When Appel Farm enters into a collaboration with a school, Appel Farm becomes an integral part of the school and the community. Together, Appel Farm and the school establish specific, actionable objectives that aim to improve teaching and learning through the arts and instill best practices. These programs are often span a number of years, with the goal that Appel Farm will help to design and build a program that the school will then be able to assume full management of after a designated time. Each partnership is tailored to meet the specific needs of a particular school and are an excellent and lasting way to transform arts education.
Current Curricular Partnerships
Pleasantville Public Schools
Appel Farm is partnering with Pleasantville Public Schools to help them establish and strengthen their Visual & Performing Arts Department at their High School and Middle School. By providing management in curriculum and assessment, teacher support and supervision, budget oversight, performances and events, community engagement, and arts education advocacy, this partnership demonstrates how the arts can be an effective tool in transforming a community.
Pathways Program – 21st Century Learning Community Grant
Appel Farm is bringing year-long artist residencies to five schools as part of Bridgeton Public Schools’ Pathways 21st Century Community Learning Centers. Through their interaction with professional artists, students are given an unparalleled, and truly transformative, experience in the visual and performing arts.
Pathways 21st Century Community Learning Centers are an after school program designed around achieving milestone improvements in math and language arts objectives through theme-based learning in the visual and performing arts. Across five district schools in grades four through eight, this after school program provides services to students and their families throughout the year. Students are motivated and challenged to connect with the world around them through creativity, individual expression and hands on academics.
