Step-by-Step Process for Teaching Artists Background Check
Appel Farm requires that ALL teaching artists that are employed ANNUALLY obtain:
(A) State Police Criminal Record Check (from PA or NJ or NY)
(B) Finger-print based Federal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI)
(C) Child Abuse History Clearance: This is currently only available through the state of PA, but all artists must apply for this
If you have already obtained a (A) Child Abuse History Clearance, (B) State Police Criminal Record Check (from PA/NJ/NY), and (C) fingerprint based Federal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) this year, you may simply provide a copy of your completed background check documents to Kerri Sullivan, Director of Arts Education & Outreach at Appel Farm.
You may provide clearances from PA, NJ or NY, whichever is most convenient for you. Each state has a different system for background checks.
Clearances will be useful for all school-based work that you perform, so it’s expected that the teaching artist will pay for their clearances, as a cost of doing business as a teaching artist. We estimate it will cost less than $60 for all of the background clearances, whichever methods you select. It is suggested you check with your accountant, as these fees may be deductible business expenses. You may select whichever method you prefer, your state of residence is not considered.
All completed background checks should be submitted annually to:
